Mike Broomfield

Mike Broomfield has been an avid landscape photographer since his early days of hiking and climbing in the UK where he was born. After a long trip to the Nepal Himalayas in 1986, he moved to the US and started using black and white film as well as color. Interested in creating large fine art prints, Mike moved from 35mm to medium format and then 4x5 and 8x10 cameras. While he still possesses large format gear, he now uses a high resolution digital SLR camera for the majority of his work.

"I look for the natural landscape whenever I'm out hiking. Even when I'm in the city I'm looking for lines and form in the landscape. For me digital photography essentially brings the darkroom to the desktop. I can create significantly better prints with digital processing than in a darkroom. The difference is small but noticeable for black and white, but very obvious with color. Color is enormously complicated and very difficult to master with traditional wet processing."

Mike prints on Satin and Photo Rag papers using pigment inks with lifetimes that rival or exceed traditional techniques
